Sunset as well as Drew Dodge's other works from the second half of 2022 depict imagery of the American West and the artist’s signature canine-man hybrid. He uses rich colors to transform a desert wasteland into a lush, majestic and spiritual setting that enables him to process the past and imagine a future in one scene. His environments are rich with queer symbolism that suggest a sense of belonging and freedom.
Drew Dodge (born 2001, Monterey, California) earned a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design (2022) and has had solo exhibitions at Steve Turner, Los Angeles (2021 & 2022); L21, Palma de Mallorca (2022) and is slated to have solo exhibitions in 2023 at 1969 Gallery, New York and Steve Turner, Los Angeles.
